Senior Estimator
Job Overview & Qualifications

Project estimators work full-time in the office. The position is salaried with health, dental, paid vacation and 401k match. Hours are generally Monday through Friday, 7:00A-4:00P, however start and end times are flexible. Work weeks in excess of 40 hours should be expected during times of heavy estimating workload. While work/life balance is something that we stress at Universal Electric, the cyclical nature of the industry requires flexibility in scheduling. Qualified candidates must be agreeable to extended schedules and occasional weekend work during times of high demand, most often occurring in the months of March, April and May. A well-suited candidate has the following qualifications:

• 10+ years experience in estimating projects in all market segments is required
• Experience in a supervisory estimating position is preferred. However, we are willing to train a candidate with the requisite variety and depth of experience and a strong desire to lead.
• Experience estimating additional aspects of the industry (i.e. medium voltage, highway/traffic signaling, technology, etc.) is a plus.
• Proficiency in ConEst Intellibid and Surecount is a plus. However, we are willing to send the right candidate to the necessary training.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required
• Proficiency in Microsoft Sharepoint platform is a plus
• Experience in Filed Sub-bid procedures and prequalification processes is required
Position Overview & Responsibilities​

Universal Electric is looking for an experienced Senior Estimator to lead our most challenging estimating efforts and facilitate continued growth of the company. The qualified candidate will be capable of stepping in and leading in all aspects of the estimating and budgeting processes. This includes, but is not limited to the following:

• Seeking and tracking new opportunities with both an established client base and prospective clients.
• Maintaining relationships with established clients and building new ones with prospective clients.
• Work with company executives in creating, refining and maintaining department processes, methods and procedures with a goal of department-wide consistency and optimum efficiency in all aspects of the estimating and budgeting process.
• Refining and maintaining ConEst database, including custom templates, assemblies and items within the database.
• Completing documents reviews, takeoff, soliciting quotes, compiling bid documents – this is not a purely supervisory role. The Senior Estimator will be actively involved in putting together budgets and estimates, as well as supervising the work of others.
• Directing and overseeing the work of estimators and junior estimators – assign tasks, set expectations, ensure timely delivery, enforce adherence to developed methods and procedures and review all work prior to review with company executives for submission - It is expected that all aspects of budgets, bids and proposals have been reviewed, vetted and corrected as necessary prior to final review by upper management.
• Effectively communicating expectations, deficiencies, status updates, etc. with subordinate estimating staff, project managers, support staff and company executives.
• Maintain a system of tracking historical bid data.
